The next morning, Melody was awake very early. She couldn’t sleep because her mind kept racing. In a matter of a few hours, she would be a mother and would finally meet her unexpected gift. She had so much nervous energy, she didn’t know what to do with herself so she just danced.
“I’m gonna be a mom today. HOLY LLAMAS!! I’m gonna be a mom today!”
She suddenly felt very nervous and afraid and ran downstairs to talk to her twin. Luckily Cadence was already up working out.
“What’s up, Mel?”
“What if I’m not good enough? What if I mess this kid’s life up?”
“You won’t.”
“How do you know?”
“You know how to be a good mom because you had a good mom. You’ll be fine,” Cadence said grunting through her last rep.
“You really think so?”
“I know so!”
“Thanks. I hope you’re right.”
Melody went to the kitchen to finish her breakfast. She called her job to request family leave, and her boss was more than glad to hear that she would be giving birth soon. One day? Why do they only give us one day, she thought as her boss explained family leave was just a day. Luckily she had three PTO days saved.
Her agenda for the day was very simple: chill out until the baby comes. She did just that. Late morning, just before noon, she realized she was still wearing her pajamas and took a shower.
“Oof! My back. I’ll be soo glad when this is over!”
“[groaning] Baby…you’ve got to chill out in there! That wasn’t a nice thing to do.”
“Holy cow plants!! I think you’re trying to come out…NOW!”
She waddled out of the bathroom and hollered for her sister and waddled painfully to the nursery.
“Why are you way over there?”
“I don’t think I want to watch this.”
But as the labor pains intensified, and Melody’s screams increased, Cadence couldn’t help but try to comfort her sister. But there was nothing she could do. So, she just stood by her side.
After a few more intense contractions–and every foul word known to Sims–Melody finally gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
“OH!!! You’re soo beautiful,” Melody gushed. “I’m going to name you–OHHHH!! What’s happening to me?!”
“Melody! Why are you still in labor?!”
“OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! There’s ANOTHER ONE in there?!”
“Another one?! Twins?? That’s soo cool! You’re a twin and you’re having twins!”
“NO, it’s NOT COOL! Shut your trap or get out!!”
Melody labored some more, but finally the other baby came–another girl!
“Two babies?? What am I supposed to do with TWO babies?!”
“You love them,” Cadence said quietly, cooing over her newest niece.
Melody calmed down as she held Mia in her arms, and Cadence was completely enamored with Marli. Mia gurgled and cooed and looked at Melody directly in the eyes. She didn’t know she didn’t have a father. She didn’t know the circumstances into which she was born. She didn’t even know her mother’s name. All she saw was her mother–the one who was going to care for her for the next 18 years. It didn’t matter that Melody didn’t have any experience with motherhood or that she wasn’t even expecting to meet her right now. She knew this person who was holding her was the one who was going to make everything better, and that’s all she needed to know.
“Cadence…tell me…how can I be so in love with someone I just met?”
“It’s amazing. Isn’t it?”
“It really is.”
She gently placed Mia in the bassinet and took a moment to look at her two wonderful blessings. Two pairs of eyes stared back at her, and she was just in awe of it all.
“I’m gonna go chill out for a minute.”
“Go ahead. I have them.”
She went to go sit in front of the TV for a few minutes, but the boys were in there anxiously awaiting the news.
“Hey, guys.”
“So…what is it?? A boy or a girl,” Lance asked.
“Neither.”
“Huh? What is it? An alien?”
“Twin girls!”
“You have twins?! Whooooa! You’re a twin too,” Lance said almost incoherently.
“She’s been a twin her whole life, doofus,” Allen said.
“So, what are their names?”
“Mia Colleen, and Marli Cassandra.”
“Nice,” the boys said simultaneously.
“You kept the whole M.C. you have going on, I see,” Lance observed.
Meanwhile, in the nursery, Cadence was still looking after her nieces. They were happy and didn’t need anything, but she didn’t want to leave them alone. She looked at them, looked around the nursery, and looked at back them. She thought, Hmmm…do I want this…with Cameron? She wasn’t sure yet, but the idea was beginning to be a pleasant one.
Allen wanted to meet his little cousins and practically ran to the nursery to see them. Melody was right behind him.
“Hey little ladies! I’m your cousin, Allen! You’ll meet another guy soon, but I’m way cooler than him. Remember that.”
Lance came along and just watched the scene. It made him smile. I’m gonna be here soon, Dad. I promise!
Yay!!! Twins! That’s so crazy, but so awesome! I love their names so much! I’m happy for Melody. I think this is just what she needed in her life. For now, she has a lot of help and you. You have a lot on your hands! Yikes!
Yeah! I’m torn. I want to have a smaller house for a while, and I feel like moving her out with her children would be a huge step toward independence and maturity and healing, but…I’m not sure if I want to. I mean, I want to, but I don’t lol.
I agree with Mel, twin are not cool, they are high maintenance. But they do kill 2 birds with one stone.
Even though all babies look the same, the way Mia looked at Melody was just special <3
Hey, look who’s back! 🙂 Your Bloomers are holding me hostage today!
I LOVE the way they looked at her. I had to include it 🙂
“Mia Colleen, and Marli Cassandra.” Amazing Names!!

They were lol. I just left them there.
