Meanwhile, inside, Maya was trying to comfort her distraught sister.
She thought she was crying about her friendship with Julio potentially being over, but to her surprise that was not the case. When she asked what was wrong, Aubrey whined, “I made daddy mad!” She knew Aubrey held great respect for their father and never wanted to cross him, but she didn’t understand until then how deep that respect was. It was kind of admirable that she would be more hurt over Jonathan’s feelings than her own.
That did not mean she had forgotten about her own feelings, however.
“…and the worst part is I don’t even know why! It’s so unfair! He can’t be mad at me and not say why. How is that even allowed?”
For some reason, Aunt Janessa’s mistake came to mind. She still didn’t understand it, but somehow thought these two situations could be related. There wasn’t enough evidence to support that, but they were both just too weird. She thought about simply going to Janessa’s house and asking her what she meant, but part of her was afraid to admit there was anything to it. Now, it couldn’t be denied. Still, Aubrey was upset, and she knew Jonathan would want to calm her and allay her anxieties. Perhaps if she waited a bit longer, the answers they were both looking for would come soon.
To be continued…
You plan to administer these chapters in really small doses, aren’t you? That’s just evil!
I don’t know what you’re talking about…
😀
Yes, please wait! It’s better to hear from your father than your aunt. She already skirted the question once, leave it alone with her.
Good advice for our curious girl.
